Does your vote matter as a fire department?

With primaries right around the corner, it’s important as firefighters that we make wise decisions about who we vote for! What determines who you vote for? Does your elected official care about your fire station? How long since your state representative, sheriff, or county supervisor visited your firehouse? Does your tax accessor/collector know you exist? All these are questions worth discussing as a group at your firehouse. People will come out of the woodwork asking you to vote for them, but you may never see them again once they are elected. Don’t let an incumbent get too comfortable. Have they gotten lazy? Start looking for someone that supports the ideas-and successes of the fire service…our future depends on it! Last but not least…get out and vote. Now more than ever it seems that our opinions no longer matter, but remember that government only works for those that make it work!
